METRO STATIONS

HELSINKI TO ESPOO - WEST METRO TRAFFIC OPENED ON 18 NOVEMBER 2017

The westward extension of the Helsinki metro system with eight new metro stations opened in the Helsinki Regional Traport district, six of which are located in Espoo. The stations opened are Lauttasaari and Koivusaari in Helsinki and Keilaniemi, Aalto University, Tapiola, Urheilupuisto, Niittykumpu and Matinkylä in Espoo. All entrances to the stations are handicap-accessible and each station has its own architectural theme, which reflects the activities aboveground near the station. The new section of the metro travels underground for its entire length.

During rush-hour, the metro travels between Tapiola (Espoo) and Itäkeskus (Helsinki) every two and a half minutes. Passengers should take note that there are two lines: one of the lines travels Matinkylä/Espoo-Vuosaari/Helsinki and the other Tapiola/Espoo-Mellunmäki/Helsinki. In Espoo, every other train turns back in Tapiola and every other one continues to Matinkylä.

You can review the metro schedule in HSL’s website.
