No trip to Finland is complete without a sauna. Luckily, Espoo has plenty of options to choose from. This article guides you to the city's best public saunas - bookable or walk-in - so you can experience this Finnish ritual like a local.

Watersport Center Laguuni

Located by the Keilaniemi Business Park and just a short walk from Keilaniemi metro station, Watersport Center Laguuni offers public sauna sessions all year round. There are two saunas: a fully renovated wood-heated container sauna and an electric-heated barrel sauna. From both saunas, a dip or a swim in the Baltic Sea is possible. Both saunas also have access to a shower. Remember to check availability and book your sauna session time in advance.

Löylykontti with 3 different locations

Unique sauna experience in transformed containers that have been transferred to some of the best locations in Espoo. Löylykontti already has three locations in Espoo, two of them (Matinkylä and Kivenlahti) right in front of the Baltic Sea, and the newest addition (Laaksolahti) is located by Lake Pitkäjärvi. All locations are self-service-based — visitors need to book and pay for the sauna in advance. Afterward, they receive a door code with which they can enter the sauna premises 10 minutes before the booked sauna session.

Löylykontti Matinkylä = seaside location with comfortable dressing room, clean toilet and direct access to swimming pier. Outdoor showers are available during summer season, and the sauna space has a panoramic sea views.

Löylykontti Kivenlahti = is another seaside location with stunning panoramic sea views directly from the sauna. It has a well-maintained dressing room, clean toilet, and direct access to the swimming pier all year round. Outdoor showers are available during the summer season.

Löylykontti Laaksolahti = a lakeside sauna right next to Laaksolahti Sports Park has a private dressing room and year-round toilet facilities. The sauna itself is spacious with a stunning lake view, and an  excellent opportunity for winter swimming. Outdoor showers are available during summer season.

Pricing for public sauna sessions starts from 7€ / person, and private sauna sessions start at 29€ / hour.

Bodom Bar & Sauna

A bar filled with metal band Children of Bodom memorabilia also offers public sauna sessions for walk-in visitors daily. There is no need for reservation, and there are three saunas, divided into women's and men's saunas, which are heated daily from the opening time until 23:00 (except on Sundays until 20:00). The mixed sauna is heated on weekends or by request and requires the wearing of a bathing suite.

Walk-in prices are 12€, kids coming with an adult are free of charge.

Hype Sky Pool 

A rooftop pool with sauna on top of Hybrid Arena Hype in Espoo's Kivenlahti district welcomes visitors for sauna and pool sessions daily between 10:00 and 22:00. Pre-reservations are not needed. Tickets are available from the second floor's info desk and let visitors enjoy 2 hours of relaxation with rooftop views all the way to the Baltic Sea.

Walk-in prices: 10€ per 2 hours (Mondays-Thursdays); 15€ per 2 hours (Fridays-Sundays)

Folkhälsan Solvalla Public Sauna Times

Located on the shore of Lake Pitkäjärvi in Nuuksio National Park, Folkhälsan Solvalla offers public sauna sessions on Saturdays between 12:00 and 15:00 (sauna sessions are 1,5 hours long, neither from 12:00-13:30 or 13:30-15:00). There are two different beach saunas in the same building. One is reserved for women and the other for men, so both sauna sessions are held simultaneously. Visitors can book the sauna spot online via the link below or from the Folkhälsan Solvalla accommodation reception.

Price: 11€ / person (session time is 1,5h)

Majvik Spa

An extra tip is located right behind the Espoo border in the municipality of Kirkkonummi. Majvik Spa welcomes both walk-in and overnight visitors, who can enjoy relaxation in a Finnish sauna, swimming pool, jacuzzi, or cool down in a cold pool. The spa is open between Mondays and Fridays between 16:00-22:00 and on Saturdays 15:00-22:00 (closed on Sundays). The peaceful and relaxing setting of the spa is designed for adults. Families with children are welcome at the spa during Family Saturday events, which are announced in advance on Majvik's website.
