A nature lover's etiquette
Respect nature - don't change it. Do not pick plants in a nature reserve, and keep your dog on a leash.
Stay on marked trails and follow the rules on different means of transport. Cycling is not allowed on nature trails.
Camping along nature trails is not allowed. Camp only in officially marked camping areas.
Do not use disposable grills and do not pour dishing water straight back into natural waters.
Only make a campfire at a designated campfire site. Do not light a fire when a forest grass fire warning is in effect.
Do not litter. Take your rubbish to an appropriate waste collection point.
Bergö Nature Trail (2,5 km)
A nature trail with a Bergö bird-watching tower offers wonderful views of Espoo's archipelago. The trail goes through forest with rocky terrain and wooden mires, and can be demanding in places due to steep slopes.

The nearest bus stop is Bergö, about 300 metres along Bergöntie road, which leads to the parking area and the beginning of the nature trail.

Hanikka Nature Trail (6,5 km)
A diverse nature trail combining seashore, various types of wetlands, and forests with rocky terrain and burial cairns.

Starting point: Matasaarentie 1, FI-02380 Espoo
The trail can be reached from Suinonsalmi, Soukka, and Soukansalmi, for example. By bus, it can be reached from the Suononsalmi, Soukankallio, Vesiniitty, Alakartanonkuja, and Alatörmä stops. In addition to the parking area near Suinonsalmi, parking spaces can be found in the parking area of the Hanikka trail.

Finnoo Nature Trail (1,6km)
A nature trail along a wetland that invites various bird species. The trail itself is easy to walk and has two bird-watching towers.

Laajalahti Nature Sanctuary Trail (0,7-1km)
Laajalahti Nature Reserve is the best birding area in southern Finland. The area protects a shallow sea bay and is essential for abundant breeding birds and thousands of birds resting during their migrations. The nature trail goes around the old forest from Villa Elfvik to the shore and back. Visitors will find information boards about local history and nature along the way. The learning continues inside the nature house Villa Elfvik with exhibitions on Espoo's biodiversity, and visitors are welcome to join educational guided tours organized by Villa Elfvik.

Fiskarsinmäki Nature Trail (1km)
Fiskarsinmäki is an easy nature trail that is part of the national herb-rich forest conservation programme and the Espoonlahti coastal meadow traditional landscape. The extensive network of walking paths in the area allows hikers to extend their hikes.

Hannusmetsä Nature Trail (3,5km)
This nature trail takes visitors through spruce-dominated coniferous forests, rugged pine stands, wetland hollows, and Hannusjärvi wildwoods. It follows old paths with challenging parts. The trail has different geological sites, and it gets very wet during rain.

Just beyond Espoo’s western border, in the municipality of Kirkkonummi, visitors can discover beautiful recreational areas. Highlights include the Meiko Nature Reserve, set by the stunning Lake Meiko; Porkkalanniemi Recreational Area, with its rich history and breathtaking archipelago landscapes; and Linlo, a hidden gem island accessible by a pedestrian bridge.
Meiko Nature Reserve
A wilderness gem with shimmering, clear waters and a varied landscape around Lake Meiko and four additional ponds. Meiko Nature Reserve offers three marked trails that are easy to follow but challenging and not accessible as the routes go across outcrops, rocky landscapes with exposed roots, and varying elevations.

Linlo Island - Nature and hiking trails
A lovely outdoor island accessible via a pedestrian bridge offers three market trails that connect into each other, making it possible almost to circle the island. The island trails go over different rock formations, a high rocky observation hill, steep seaside cliffs, polished rock surfaces, tilted outcrops, and boulders. Visitors will find several cooking shelters, campfire sites, and dry toilets along the trails.

Porkkalanniemi Recreational Area
A popular outdoor destination for picnics, trail running, and shorter hikes. The area offers rocky shores, pine forests, and beautiful outlooks to the sea. Lucky visitors may spot migrating arctic birds, seabirds, long-tailed ducks, white-tailed deers, and even moose. Porkkalanniemi is in the process of becoming a nature conservation area. Please, remember to respect nature and do not interact with wild animals.
There is an accessible observation platform and an accessible toilet in the Telegrafberget parking area.
Length: There are several trails in the area, including three marked routes.
Vetokannaksen taival trail (1,9 km) = covers the northwest area and has several parking spots along.
Teleberget trail (2,3 km) = a circle trail in the middle of the area that includes the climb to the highest point.
Pampskatan trail (1,8 km) = trail leading to the southern end of the area and its rocky shores.
Difficulty: challenging
Starting point: From Helsinki-Hanko road (number 51), turn to Porkkalanniemi and drive along Porkkalantie for approximately 19 kilometres. After the public road ends, follow the signposts for Porkkalanniemen virkistysalueet (Porkkalanniemi Recreational Area) - there are several parking areas along the trails to choose from.
