My Nuuksio - With Family and Friends

Share

What does Nuuksio National Park mean to you?

For me, Nuuksio National Park is exactly the place I want to show to all my friends and family who visit me in Finland. I like the relaxed vibe, the feeling of being so close to nature, and the great services offered in the area. In Nuuksio, you can always find something for everyone, so it is easier to plan something different whenever somebody is visiting – whether it is great food, unique experiences, or just a hike to the nearest viewpoint.

When and how did you get familiar with Nuuksio National Park the first time?

It was thanks to my school and work. I can still remember the first time entering Nuuksio. I was coming by the bus and was amazed by the beautiful Pitkäjärvi view you can already see from the bus. It was a winter day when the sun showed up! (read real Finnish miracle)!

What is your favorite thing or activity in Nuuksio National Park?

If I must name only one, I will say Wine in the Woods. I love the wine-tasting experience in connection to local nature. It is not only about drinking wine but more about being present, learning to unwind, and finding well-being from local nature before having a blast with some great wines and talks.

What are your best memory/memories from Nuuksio National Park?

Having a day trip to Nuuksio with my friends and relatives in early September. It was perfect sunny weather, with autumn foliage slowly starting to show up, but the temperature still felt like summer. We first tasted nature on a plate in Restaurant Haltia and then headed to the Nuuksio Reindeer Park, where we got to meet and feed reindeer (some of us for the first time). That was so exciting for all of us – even my Finnish friends.

We also made some ‘pulla’ on the open fire there! To proceed with all the great food, we decided to take the Maahisenkierros hike and did different tasks around the route for our mental well-being. To finish the day at best, we joined the Wine in the Woods – wine-tasting experience. It was just a perfect day!

What makes Nuuksio a great recreational area?

It is the ultimate Finland Bucket List place to go. You can really try there everything you expect Finland to be like – the beauty of Finnish nature, feeding reindeer in the southernmost reindeer park, having an artificial northern lights experience in Finnish Nature Centre Haltia (and if you are really lucky, even the real one), having outdoor pancakes, going on a hike, cycling, picking berries or having a great rest in Haltia Lake Lodge glamping nests.
